Waitemata Riding Club

The Waitemata Riding Club Incorporated was established in 1987 as a relaxed alternative to registered competitions and is proving just as competitive and fun. We provide a supportive, friendly environment for horse people who perhaps don’t want to register with Equestrian Sports New Zealand but who still want to attend clinics, compete, meet new people and learn more about their sport. Our members have a wide range of interests - from dressage, show hunter, cross-country to showing. Our competitions are famous for being well organised but also relaxed and informal – no plaiting or jackets required!

Waitemata Hunt Club Inc

The Waitemata Hunt has been part of the community in the Rodney District for over 70 years. We are a drag hunt where hounds follow a scent and riders follow the hounds. The jumps in the fence line are about 85cm in height and are prepared with a rail. You can choose to go through the gate or keep at a distance and just watch.

We are out riding (following the hounds) for about 2.5 hours The season runs from March through to the end of May with most of the hunts being on a Sunday. The Waitemata Hunt draws from the communities of Rodney, West Auckland, Waitemata up to Kaipara and involves the farm owners – who generously allow the Hunt to use their properties.

The Huntsman’s primary responsibility is to manage, run and care for the hounds on a daily basis as well as to attend all Hunt meetings with the pack. If you want the thrill of racing over the country side or just the pleasure of being out on your horse somewhere different, then come ride with the hounds. We may be called a Hunt, but it is in name only; nothing is chased or caught.

Waimauku Adult Ride

Waimauku Adult Ride are a bunch of over 21s who combine their love of horses with social activities, shared lessons and low key competitions on Wednesday mornings.

The season starts on the 1st October and runs all year, including through winter. Membership numbers are capped to ensure that lessons do not become over subscribed.

There are 3-4 riders in each lesson.  We try where practical to group similar level riders together.

Along with our lessons our low - key competitions provide an opportunity to have a go at a discipline in a relaxed, supportive and above all FUN environment.
